Tri 101: Nutrition Tips for the Newbie Triathlete

Coach Venue BC, Canada

For newcomers looking to test their mettle at triathlon, it's important to understand a few nutrition hurdles--and how to overcome them.
As the questions and requests for nutrition-related information were overwhelming, we have decided to split out the nutrition talks over several talks. We will be inviting all the nutritionists that have been recommended by various members to speak on their "specialty".

The first Tri 101: Nutrition talk will be presented by Coach Bryan on Tips for Newbie Triathletes! A huge thank you to Jen for hosting this talk. Please email abbytriclub@gmail.com for the address. This is a cul-de-sac so we can squeeze as many cars on driveway but parking is limited which means some may have to walk ;).

Please contact abbytriclub@gmail.com should you have any questions.

Coaches Coffee & Age with Rage

Kristina & Vince's Abbotsford, Canada

Join us for a special edition of Coaches Coffee where Coach Paul presents Tri 101: Age with Rage.

Can experience put older triathletes on the podium ahead of their more youthful counterparts? Absolutely!

It’s often assumed that fitness declines as we get older, but many triathletes may actually get better with age. Join Coach Paul for an “Age with Rage” talk geared for those of ANY AGE to help outswim, outcycle and outrun Father Time.

Coffee, tea, water and muffins will be served.

Tri 101: How to Create a Weekly Training Plan

Coach Venue BC, Canada

A huge thank you to David B. for hosting our first Tri 101 Workshop of 2018! Right after Tuesday Track on February 13, head over to David's house in Mission to join Coach Mikey for the Tri 101 Workshop: How to Create a Weekly Training Plan.

Bring your weekly plans, whether sketched out, tabled in a cool format, or scribbled on a napkin, get the group brainstorm treatment at the meeting, where you will be putting on your thinking caps and helping each other with the strengths and weaknesses you see in the plans being discussed.

Mikey encourages everybody who can to pop in and have a go at developing your training plans with each other. We will be going through a DEMO, then right into making some real plans... more ship-shape than they are. Totally practical!!!! You are FREE to bring your existing plan in whatever shape it exists and time permitting we can look at yours for a few minutes after the sample set.

NOTE: I said existing...sorry, but we will not be creating plans from scratch for anyone. If you have NO plan in existence, be prepared to help others and that will get YOU ready to develop your own. You will all get a handy dandy reference chart with specific guidelines to follow and pitfalls to avoid so that we can train safely and effectively!

Please contact abbytriclub@gmail.com or check your email for the address.

Tri 101: So you want to be an Ironman

Mission Springs Brewing Company 7160 Oliver Street, Mission, BC, Canada

You’ve raced Olympic distance triathlons and a couple of 70.3-mile events and now you want to go for the big one. At 140.6 miles, the Long Course or "Ironman" triathlon is one of sport’s epic tests of speed, strength, endurance and mental focus. It takes willpower, dedication and a structured training plan to get you there, if you want to make your race-day an unforgetable and successful experience.

Many athletes simply don’t even start this journey at all because they are overwhelmed by how to attack the preparation for such a challenge. Others rack up a lot of empty miles and waste hours on training that will get them nowhere but tired and fatigued come race day. Swimming 2.4 miles (3.8K), cycling 112 miles (180K) and running a full marathon at 26.2 miles (42.2K) is one serious feat.

Join Coach Kevin, fresh from his UltraMan journey, as he walks you through what you need to know and consider before you start this epic journey!
