DESCRIPTION:We will be once again be returning to Whonnock Lake for our fourth season of “Introduction To Lake Swimming” practices. \nThese are mainly for folks who are new to the sport and want to become comfortable and confident in lake swims. These are not swim stroke correction sessions\, nor are they for experienced triathletes who want to swim faster. \nTo participate in these sessions you should: \n\nBe able to swim for ten minutes non-stop already (this is not a “learn to swim” clinic)\nHave a clean bill of health from your Doctor\nOwn a wetsuit (of course you have goggles)\nPreferably have a cold water swim cap – you can get one (neoprene) from MEC\nBe registered in a triathlon that involves swimming in a lake (or ocean).\n\nIf you are ready to make the transition from pool to lake\, please e-mail Coach Kevin at kknnheinze@yahoo.com or AbbyTriClub at abbytriclub@gmail.com. I look forward to working with you in completing your first “open-water” triathlon. \nBonus workout for experienced lake swimmer – come at 4:30pm for your own open water swim led by Coach Kevin across the lake and back (approx. 1500m).

At 140.6 miles\, the Long Course or “Ironman” triathlon is one of sport’s epic tests of speed\, strength\, endurance and mental focus. It takes willpower\, dedication and a structured training plan to get you there\, if you want to make your race-day an unforgetable and successful experience.\n\n\n\n\n\nMany athletes simply don’t even start this journey at all because they are overwhelmed by how to attack the preparation for such a challenge. Others rack up a lot of empty miles and waste hours on training that will get them nowhere but tired and fatigued come race day. Right after Tuesday Track on February 13\, head over to David’s house in Mission to join Coach Mikey for the Tri 101 Workshop: How to Create a Weekly Training Plan. \nBring your weekly plans\, whether sketched out\, tabled in a cool format\, or scribbled on a napkin\, get the group brainstorm treatment at the meeting\, where you will be putting on your thinking caps and helping each other with the strengths and weaknesses you see in the plans being discussed. \nMikey encourages everybody who can to pop in and have a go at developing your training plans with each other. We will be going through a DEMO\, then right into making some real plans… more ship-shape than they are. Totally practical!!!! You are FREE to bring your existing plan in whatever shape it exists and time permitting we can look at yours for a few minutes after the sample set. \nNOTE: I said existing…sorry\, but we will not be creating plans from scratch for anyone. If you have NO plan in existence\, be prepared to help others and that will get YOU ready to develop your own.
