DESCRIPTION:Sprint\, Standard & Half!\n\n\nDynamic Race Events is proud to present the 14th Annual WCOC Triathlon on Saturday June 3rd\, 2017.  We are looking forward to welcoming back those who have raced with us before and those who will be racing with us for the first time. \nThe event is held on Saturday\, June 3rd\, the day before the Oliver Half Iron.  We will again be hosting both Sprint and Olympic distance races.  Hosting the event the day before the Oliver Half Iron enables us to focus on a weekend of triathlon and makes the event easier for the community and volunteers. \nCome Visit\, Race\, Relax and Enjoy the Wine Capital of Canada. \nOliver is located at the most northern point of the Sonora Desert\, tucked into the southern end of B.C.’s beautiful Okanagan Valley. The swim is held in Tuc-el-Nuit Lake \, with the course parallel to the shore and the only thing to be aware of is the jumping carp.   A scenic bike course is found on a portion of the same course that our Oliver Half Iron follows\, with a few minor hills.  The run is a fairly flat out and back that takes you through the quiet streets of Oliver. \nThis course was home to the Provincial Championships in 2005 and is a very fast and beautiful place to race.  Our transition is on road level as well on paved road through park which allows for a spacious transition. \nThe “Wine Capital Of Canada” is renowned for the quality of wine grapes being produced there.  Those grown in the favored Golden Mile and on Black Sage are sought by vintners province-wide.  Oliver’s climate and topography offer the optimum conditions necessary to grow the preferred grapes.  The town holds 10% of the country’s wineries and just over 4500 acres of the fine grape growing vineyards-68% of B.C.’s 6600 acres. Oliver has the largest concentration of both vineyards and commercial wineries in British Columbia .  The majority of these are located along what is known as the Golden Mile of Highway 97\, and on Black Sage Road just south of Oliver.  New wineries and additional lands are being put into production in what is expected to be a growth industry for the next five to 10 years. The rolling terraces\, exceptionally mild climate with lots of sun\, gravelly soil and availability of irrigation produce the right elements for growing high-quality grapes. \nRace with us and enjoy a new standard of support\, both on and off the course\, and explore the incredible wine country after the race with friends and family! \nFeatures of the Event Include:\n\nTech Shirt\nChip Timing\nGreat Volunteers and Spectators cheering you on\nAwards for the top three in each age group

SUMMARY:Westwood Lake Triathlon
DESCRIPTION:Sprint & Standard\nThe 2nd Annual Westwood Lake Triathlon will be taking place at Westwood Lake Park in Nanaimo on May 14th\, 2017.  Dynamic Race Events in partnership with the City of Nanaimo and Tourism Nanaimo is excited to be bringing the event to the mid-Island. \nWestwood Lake Park is one of Nanaimo’s best loved parks and is located just 4 km from downtown Nanaimo.  Nestled in the foothills of Mt. Benson it is a year round destination. There is a 5.51 km trail around the lake\, and is a popular favorite spot of local walkers and runners.  Westwood Lake is a large lake with a maximum depth about 24 feet.  Local triathletes begin swimming in the lake in mid-April. \nThe transition for the event will be the main beach parking lot just meters from the water’s edge. \nThe race offers  Sprint and Standard courses in this epic venue. \nThe swim will start off the main beach at Westwood Lake. \nThe bike courses for each distance share the first initial 10 km section leaving the lake. The bike course travels through roads west of Hwy 19 through the rural neighborhoods of Jingle Pot Rd.\, Brannen Lake\, Dumont Rd and for the Half Iron includes the climb up Meadows Rd. \nThe Sprint and Olympic bike courses consist of single loop out-and-back courses before returning to Westwood Lake Park. \nThe run will be through the beautiful trails of Westwood Lake Park with the finish near second beach.

DESCRIPTION:We will be once again be returning to Whonnock Lake for our third season of “Introduction To Lake Swimming” practices. \nThese are mainly for folks who are new to the sport and want to become comfortable and confident in lake swims. These are not swim stroke correction sessions\, nor are they for experienced triathletes who want to swim faster. \nTo participate in these sessions you should: \n\nBe able to swim for ten minutes non-stop already (this is not a “learn to swim” clinic)\nHave a clean bill of health from your Doctor\nOwn a wetsuit (of course you have goggles)\nPreferably have a cold water swim cap – you can get one (neoprene) from MEC\nBe registered in a triathlon that involves swimming in a lake (or ocean).\n\nIf you are ready to make the transition from pool to lake\, please e-mail Coach Kevin at kknnheinze@yahoo.com. I look forward to working with you in completing your first “open-water” triathlon.

You need to sharpen the body’s ability to perform – you need to taper!\nThe taper is the controlled decrease in training load required to bring an athlete to that pinnacle of a focused mind\, and a body that has shed all fatigue and is fresh to go. DESCRIPTION:A special TRI 101 announcement – TRI 101: Off-road triathlons presented by Roy McBeth!\nAlthough there are many of parallels between road triathlons\, off-road triathlons are distinguished from conventional triathlons in that the terrain for the cycling and running stages are generally unpaved\, rough\, and hilly. They require different techniques than conventional triathlon races\, and in particular the athletes employ mountain bikes rather than road bikes. Not only are they fun\, but the grit and strength required can be very rewarding! \nRoy has competed in MTB events for over 15 years and Xterra events for the last 8 years with events in Canmore\, Whistler\, Victoria\, Las Vegas\, Washington\, Saipan\, Guam plus the Xterra Worlds 3x in Maui.
