Lactate Threshold Testing

Kristina & Vince's Abbotsford, Canada

Whether you are a triathlete, runner, skier, cyclist, or rower, as an endurance athlete you need accurate physiological data to guide and monitor your training by. Lactate threshold is one of the most commonly, and effectively, used performance markers used by many athletes and coaches. The point is to learn the highest intensity at which you race and train before hitting the wall from high levels of blood lactate. Elite athletes and coaches know the key to success is to increase sustainable power on the bike and speed while running at lactate threshold.

Plus bonus TRI 101 talk: Back to training after the off season

Coach Kevin writes: If you have been slacking off or missing a bit of your training motivation lately, do not feel alone. This time of year, especially in Canada, many of us dedicated triathletes often tend to spend less time training. That's not a bad thing, as it gives us more time to spend with our loved ones, work on major projects for work or school, or on other interests that we may have.

That being said, we are now almost done the off-season and it is time to get back into the of regular swing of things.

Our Tri-101 talk is going to be about sharing your strategies on how to get back into a regular triathlon training and racing schedule.

The talk (well discussion really) will be held at our house which is located in Mission - please email abbytriclub@gmail.com for the address.

The talk will begin at 11 AM on Saturday, January 28 and will run until about noon, at which time we will get on our bike trainers for our usual Saturday Spin Session. If you want to just attend either the talk, or the spin, that is totally cool. Make it work for you.

Now for your homework! If you do plan on attending the Tri-101 session please respond to this post by answering the following questions:

What are your 2 main reasons for doing triathlon?
How long have you been doing this sport for?
If you could change 1 thing about your triathlon skill or ability set, what would it be?
Hope to see you at our place at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 28 for ATC's TRI 101 talk on getting "Back to training after the off season"!
